Sainsburys Wine to Go Wigh Roast Beef
Roast dinner and wine go hand-in-hand, but which tipple will best match the meat you have in the oven?
Here's our guide to the best wines to go with your roast...
Roast Chicken & Chardonnay
Crisp, buttery skin and juicy lemon and herb flavoured chicken meat is shouting out for a lightly oaked chardonnay.
The fresh green apple and citrus flavours of the chardonnay should cut through the richer parts of the chicken and the buttery notes balance perfectly.

Roast Lamb & Pinot Noir
Light, fragrant red fruit-filled Pinot Noir, with its crisp acidity, is a match made in heaven with flavoursome, fatty lamb joints. Try the raspberry freshness and rich red cherry notes of Santa Rita Reserva Pinot Noir 2016, £8.50 Sainsbury's (Not only a delicious tipple, with a beautiful label, this excellent limited edition Pinot Noir from Santa Rita sees a percentage of the profits from each bottle sold going to support the National Gallery)
If you prefer a fuller flavoured wine, try a Barolo.
Roast Beef & Valpolicella Ripasso
Cabernet Sauvignon tends to be the go to red for roast beef, and it does work excellently, but our wine of the moment would be Valpolicella Ripasso M&S, £11.
Sweet rich cherry notes and fine, dry tannins add flavour and structure. Perfect with a juicy piece of roast beef
Roast Pork & Chenin Blanc
For this meat (and the compulsory apple sauce accompaniment) we'd head for a white wine. The fruity, floral notes in a Chenin Blanc are excellent with this light red meat and the acidity cuts through the richness.
Give Waitrose Foundation Cederberg Chenin Blanc Waitrose, £8.99 a go, with its bright, tropical fruit flavours and a fresh, tangy acidity.
Don't forget the Vegetarians & Pescatarians!
White Nut Roast & Amontillado Sherry
What a combination! The rich, nutty, bitter orange peel flavours of an amontillado sherry are lovely with a cheese and nut filled nut roast.
The sherry has the freshness to balance out the richness of the dish and the flavours to match perfectly. At a bargain price of £6 per 50cl, look out for Tesco Finest Amontillado Sherry, Tesco. For those who prefer something other than sherry, a rich, nutty chardonnay would work well too.
Roast Salmon & Gavi
Roast salmon calls out for a white wine and whether you opt for a rich, buttery chardonnay or a light & fruity Gavi will somewhat depend on the accompaniments.
However, for this fennel-filled roast salmon recipe I would head for the tangy peach and pear-filled Tesco Finest Gavi (a personal favourite from our Gavi Taste Test) Tesco, £7.00

But what about dessert?
Cherry Pie & Rosé Champagne
You'll either need a full bodied, Pinot Noir-driven Rosé Champagne for this one or a red dessert wine like Banyuls. Look for something like Waitrose Rosé Champagne NV Waitrose £24.99,

Chocolate Bread & Butter Pudding & 10 year old Tawny Port
Milk chocolate, custard, bread and walnuts…what a pudding! To match this indulgence look for an aged Tawny Port, such as Taylor's 10 year old Tawny Port Tesco, £22.
A soft, nutty port with dried fig and date flavours, this would be delicious, served lightly chilled with a milk chocolate pudding.
